GoldLink
The most legendary artists eventually reach moments where they question who they are making art for: themselves or the rest of the world. Prince has gone through it, Marilyn Manson, even Kanye West. It’s a natural occurrence, one that typical leads to the most beautiful music when an artist is (as they say) in their bag. With Haram! GoldLink is in his bag. The Grammy nominated DMV native has spent the greater part of the last three years traveling world and experiencing new life changes, both good and bad. Haram! Is a testament to those moments set to music, as GoldLink explores different parts of his psyche and reflects it with diversely infectious sounds from Hip-Hop to Rock to Punk and everything in between. The project’s lead single “Raindrops” with Flo Milli harnesses GoldLink’s uncanny ability to craft hits for the mainstream, while other songs like the genre-bending “Wild and Lethal Trash!” with SantiGold and Fire! test the limits of sound, as “Open 24” oozes brutal honesty. Few artists can fire from GoldLink’s vantage point; it’s his superpower, and with Haram! he builds upon his existing momentum, but through the course of the album completely reinvents himself.
